Did final 15 minutes harm Cinemascore rating?

Audiences rated this one a C-plus, which is actually pretty abysmal.

This tells me they walked out feeling pissed at the movie.

Thoughts?

Horror movies, even ones that get good reviews, notoriously get low cinema scores. They also tend to get lower IMDB ratings, too, for that matter.

It's because audiences judge these movies off plausibility, and it makes no sense. You can't hold them to the same standard as other films, especially when they're about the paranormal/unexplained.

The film got a solid C. Not a C minus or plus.

reply

You're right. Thanks! It did get a C.

The question is, Why?

I also notice that it got 59% audience rating at rotten tomatoes which is really bad. For comparison, Split got B plus cinemascore and has 83% audience rating. It also made more in three days than Ouija made in its entire theatre run.

I don't think it was just the final 15 minutes (although that ridiculous impromptu suture scene made me laugh). The characters, while well-acted for the most part, are still not interesting enough to make you care more for this family. I did like the Henry Thomas character, who later became heroic and was, momentarily, like their Blessed shield against this devilry.
