Sordid Realism

<***Little Spoilers***>

I have seen this movie last weekend and I missed the last part where the lawyer and Mr Panahi discuss about sordid realism. I was wondering what they're talking about and also who are the dudes who take away the camera at the end and who is Mr Panahi looking for in the movie when he gets out of the car (I somehow got an idea that these dudes are related to him searching someone).

I'm just guessing here. But sordid realism they meant the harsh realities of daily life in iran, and possibly all the policies of the iranian givernment against the people.

The went to ali's spring to look for the ladies who dropped her purse at the backseat of his cab.

The guys were thieves who supposedly stole his camera.

Not really. They were, ostensibly, from the government trying to confiscate the movie he was filming. In other words, Panahi is saying that he lives his entire life under observation by the gov't (similar to what the lady w/ roses talks about during her ride) and the gov't censors are making sure he doesn't make or release films (he is banned from doing so). That's why when they are rummaging through the car, you hear are "I can't find the stick" as in the memory stick for the camera.

reply

Yikes, you mean they were real thieves, as in people from the government?

I thiught they were just "planted" thieves who were part of the film....

reply

They were actors like everybody else in the movie.
