So its obvious TAU is an ancronym

But its never explained in the movie what it stands for. Anyone here find out?

reply

You may be right? But as you say, I never saw any indication of that in the movie.

I kind of took it as a play on The Tao.

reply

And it is. I personally think it was plagiar... inspired by Tao of the Wildstorm comic universe. So if TAO is Tactical Augmented Organism, then TAU is Tactical Augmented Unit.

reply

I was thinking more like the ancient Chinese text, the Tao Te Ching.

reply

Yes, but this is like a given - everyone knows about the text.

Wildstorm's character name is an allusion to Tao (the text, the teaching), Tau on the other hand (and that is my guess) was inspired by the comics. I say this because Tao is a villain but a complicated one, Tau is also a machine build to guard the captives (among other things) but is capable of change. Tao's symbol is an inverted triangle, that's how Tau formally looks like. But the basic symbol of Tao (the doctrine) is, however, the Yin-Yang circle.

reply

I am not familiar with the comics. It does sound like there are some similarities?

I don't see Tau in this movie as a villain though.

reply

Why not? Tau is an assistant to a bad guy, he is in charge of Aries, Aries kills people. That's of course due to Tau's limited knowledge and lack of free will, but you know what they say: Ignorance of the law excuses not ;)

reply

Not necessarily an acronym.

Tau is also the 19th letter of the Greek alphabet and was used as a symbol for life or resurrection.

reply

It was the creator's (Alex's) initials, it showed his full name in one of the scenes when the girl is snooping through his files or whatever. A magazine cover or profile pic of Alex pops up, and to the right of his picture it says Thomas Alexander Upton ... or something like that. First name might've not been Thomas, but I think that was it.

reply

This. Yep, Forbes Magasin frontpage; Thomas Alexander Upton... TAU.

reply

It stands for pretentiousness.

What are you on about?
