Welder? not

I find it extremely hard to believe that mike was an actual welder in any other capacity at perhaps a bicycle repair shop.

reply

It doesn't matter how good a welder Mike is or was. He's a talented artist with a fine imagination.

Have you NDT'ed any of his welds? Have any of his welds failed, either on the show or on any of his pieces in real life? By all means, enlighten me on your criteria of what comprises a welder, because being a fabricator myself, I'd say he pretty much fits the bill.

The welds on the Giant Axe failed

reply

Well... Yes and no. He was welding rusted metal, and probably didn't create a large enough clean area.

In addition, the handle was "abused" in testing (it's too long for such a large axe head), and required additional stiffening with a steel rod.

What grizzledgeezer said, coupled with the fact that mig welding is not the cleanest of processes to begin with.

Really, I thought a welder was someone who welded metal to other metal with a welding machine.
