Good choice by Woody. Where he excels is getting a whimsy then converting that into a movie script. He isn't very good at "working" to provide something that is requested of him. The fact that he realizes that means he isn't senile yet.

?[Season 2] would be tough. I don?t know if I want to do more. It was very hard work. And I don?t know if this one will work at all. People may see this and think, ?I hate this; he should stay in the movies.? Or they may say, ?I like it very much. I wish he?d do more.? And then it becomes a little tempting. But I?m not too tempted really.?

Could there be a more Woody Allen of a Woody Allen quote?

reply

Good. There's not much more there to work with so it's best he moves on.

I took for granted that "A Crises in Six Scenes" would be six episodes and done. The story's been told. What would he do, follow Miley to Cuba?

You know, it's kinda weird, some places classify this as a mini-series, and others treat it like it could go on. For example, IMDb has it as a TV Series (2016-), and the episodes as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3...

My guess is this, if Amazon, Allen and the audience would have enjoyed this, this could have been some kind of Allen-esque anthology series. Six episodes = one story, season 1. Then eventually another six episodes with another Allen-esque story. Some shows take a break and don't do stuff every year.

Allen says "I don’t know if I want to do more. It was very hard work. And I don’t know if this one will work at all". He doesn't say, "it was a mini-series".

Anyway, whatever the case is/was, it didn't work for most, including Allen.

Dumb article by someone not in the know.
Allen had a contract to deliver 6 episodes. That's it. There was never talk of a season two.
There is no drama about there being no season two.
This story is totally made up.

Name the failures ...

David Chase did well with the Sopranos, failed with a movie.

Same with his protégé,

David Milch succeeded with Deadwood, failed with JFC and Luck.

Scorsese, Coppola, et al, some have audience appeal, some don't.
