I enjoyed the move but wondered about a plot point.
At the end of the movie, Phiona surprises her mother by buying her a house. Where did Phiona get the money for this? Was it prize money from winning the Ugandan championship?

She got paid to write her biography. It was mentioned by the hairdresser in reference to the poster on the hair salon.
