I love how Tom is trying to retain his humanity in all this bloodshed

That's a very interesting aspect that's not been explored a lot, to my knowledge, about resistance fighters. Some, not all, of them, had to commit violent acts upon strangers; sometimes without even knowing why. It must have stayed with them and I'm sure it made it hard for them to sleep at night even after the war.

Tom is definitely a very interesting character for struggling against that.

And for all his bluster, I add Neil to the list, too. The man can kill--and has killed--with his bare hands, but he was quite affected when he had to kill that quisling.

Neil's like the Ed Lane of X Company, in my opinion.
