If heaven is so great then why is no one in a rush to get there?

People whether they are believers or not, do everything in their power to stave off death for as long as possible. If heaven is so "awesome" then why wait?? And that is why religion is such a farce!

reply

I'm not scared of death at all. I know where I'm going and I have total peace about dying. I have children and I'd like to be there for them as long as possible. I believe I have a purpose in this life on Earth and I'm going to live this life the best I can before I go to heaven. God is using me here on Earth for now. One day I will meet him face to face.

You seem to have lots of preconceived notions about Christians and you're very off base. I pray your eyes are opened.

reply

"God is using you??" lol WOW! You do know that religion has all the same symptoms of severe mental illness don't you?
You are going too pray for me? You mean head bowed.eyes closed and hands clasped?? lol Another lazy persons way of pretending to do something while doing absolutly NOTHING!! Good luck witht that lol

reply

You're kind of a dick.

reply

A dick with a point, a pointy dick if you will.

reply

I don't think God has a face. He's not a giant bearded dude.

reply

Nowhere in the Bible do we read about God shaving. Therefore, he is bearded. Simple, really.

Although I suppose my line of reasoning could also lead to the conclusion that He doesn't wear pants, throws a baseball like a girl, and can't juggle.

-------------------------

I have meddled with the primal forces of nature and I will atone.

reply

He can juggle. You know that guy can juggle.

reply

"I know where I'm going"

Ignorance is bliss.

reply

Don Piper himself always says that he can't wait to go back to Heaven.

I'm not a Christian, but if I'm not mistaken, it's a sin if you try to kill yourself. :)

reply

You may not be a christian, but you're probably rather young if you take for granted what other people (that you don't know) say. One should be very critical and skeptical when believing things that people claim, especially with a extraordinary claim like that. As Carl Sagan said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

reply

Yeah, I was just answering his question why the Christians are not rushing to go to Heaven. I think it's because the Christians think it's a sin if you kill yourself. I didn't say it was my opinion. :)

reply

I think there wasn't a mention of "killing oneself". More along the lines of 'why do christians delay their death for as long as possible, when to them, life itself is just a precursor to heaven, paradise or eternal, blissed afterlife'. That also raises the question why every single devout christian (at least that I know) mourns rather than celebrates the passing of a loved one. If they really did believe that that someone is now in a much much better place, wouldn't the happiness they feel for that person be stronger than their own grief? Or do they know, deep down, that 'heaven' is just a fairy-tale? Anyhow, it all makes very little sense to me. And nice talking to you :)

Matthew 4-6King James Version (KJV)

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

reply

God has a plan for us here on earth we are here to do His will. The Lord will call us home when it's our time. Jesus loves you and I will pray you find Him.

I belong to Jesus: my Lord, Savior, my eternity, my everything. I love you, Jesus!

reply

Yep he calls 5500 African children home every day. Or does he? Are they all Christians?

reply

I'm really happy for the billions of people that have died believing in other religions. It's really loving for your god to refuse them from heaven for believing what their parents taught them to believe which happened to be wrong. I mean, it's pretty awesome that there are over 4,000 religions practiced on earth, and all but one of them is totally wrong and the people that follow the others are all going to suffer forever.

reply

They're all wrong, or at least unproven until they'be been verified by the scientific method. Even then, it is just a theory until something more accurate comes around. But to clarify what I mean by theory, gravity and water freezing at 32 degree F are still "theories." If something more accurate is proven and peer reviewed, we'll believe that.

reply

Right, because Christianity is so scientifically sound.

reply

It is. I mean, is science scientifically sound? It keeps changing every day. What was scientific many years ago no longer is.

reply

That's what science is. It evolves and improves. In contrast to religion which is always stays the same despite overwhelming evidence.

reply

I know that all of the fundamentalists on this board are dodging the question, but I think that the answer is pretty complex.

On one level, it's because every species that survives and evolves must protect itself, and even if intellectually they believe that riches and comfort await them upon death they still have an animalistic desire to protect themselves and reproduce.

On another level, Christians may be 90% sure that what they believe is true (maybe more like 50-60% secretively), so they may not necessarily want to bet their mortal flesh on it.

And finally, the church needed to keep its institution in continuity, and not just an ancient forgotten religion. There's not much continuity in a religion that kills off all of its members. So they interpret the Bible to mean that life is precious, suicide isn't allowed, body is a temple, and you're needed here on Earth to recruit and expand the religion (and Tith 10% of your earnings).

reply

Because as much as they run their mouths they still have a degree of doubt about their own beliefs plus a degree of fear they won't be getting into heaven for some reason.
