Could Have Used More Inspiration and More Faith Actually...

This is a solid film based on faith and inspired by a true story.

The story itself was more about the struggle to overcome injuries and the awful tedious nature and toll it takes on everyone’s lives that are associated with a life altering injury. To be honest, I was expecting more faith and inspiration and less of the tedium and pain.

The film conveys its message but the actual “90 minutes in heaven” isn’t even discussed until late in the third act. The entire lead up until that point felt dragged out and unnecessarily long. I was also disappointed that a preacher or any of his fellow ministers never brought up the aspect of offering up pain or fighting through adversity to “carry one’s own cross” as is a tenet of Christian faith.

To me, the best part of the film was the close where the actual real life preacher upon which this story is based gives a brief sermon on his experiences.

Also, the performances are excellent; Hayden Christensen has come a long way since his wooden Vader days. Kate Bosworth was exceptional and proves she can still play in the big leagues.

'Faith' is just an excuse for believing something one otherwise has no good reason to believe. 

Life is a good reason and the amazing Hebrew record.

Why do you need to believe a supernatural humanoid magician made the entire universe in order to lead a moral, fulfilling, meaningful life? 

Prior to the Hebrew record spreading, there was no moral civilization on record. Morality wasn't a part of human existence in societal terms. Every civilization had numerous cruel, savage practices.

I believe in G-D because G-D is truth and logic.

Wait, what?

In what way did the morals of Egyptians, Chinese, Summerian or Akkadians differ from the Hebrews? They are just some examples of civilizations that pre-dates the Hebrew one.

No, faith is a substance of things hoped for, and evidence of things not seen.

There are better efforts out there.

I thought war room was a much stronger movie.

Ooh, yes. I still have that on my laptop. I'm still trying to find a closet :-))

I totally agree with you. I was really disappointed. I think Heaven is for Real was a better movie. Such a shame.

That right there is the main problem with this film.
