THE END SEQUENCE

it was so darkly filmed i could not make out what happened in the mine can anyone help please ?

Yes the tag on scene mid credits appeared to be the body of the killer. I expected him to suddenly rise up, you know, signaling a sequel and adding him to the long list of unkillable killers. But no... nothing happened. Just showed his assumingly lifeless body amid the rubble.

Right, but there was a sound the split second after fade-to-black AND the text said his body was never found even though she led the authorities back to the scene of the crimes. So I was kinda torn if he survived or not, not that it really mattered.

Overall I found the film enjoyable but highly unlikely. If for no other reason, she should have taken the Sniper Rifle for its scope to help her find the nearest way out. It was also confusing because I swore she shot him after stabbing him. It was obvious that she would end up killing the Sheriff, why he didn't announce his presence & designation is beyond me.

Not taking the rifle is a staple in most of these horror films. I saw one where the heroine tossed at least three "should have kept them" weapons away while running from a maniac. In this case, she was traumatized, sure he was dead, and generally not thinking ahead about the scope, etc. Still... I would have kept it.

I suspect he was wearing some kind of body armor. Still a point blank shot from a high powered rifle should have compromised any body armor available in 1978. But body armor would be my guess as to how he survived.

The sheriff expected his brother inside the shack and probably did not want to give him a heads up. He more than likely figured the girl was dead by then.

Yes they mention his body had never been found but those caves are winding and dark and she really got movie-lucky in finding an exit. So it is not too far out of the realm of reality to think his body was not recovered.

The cave in would have cover him completely so the peek shot we got should not have been possible - just there to make people like me think he was going to get up and be yet another unkillable killer just waiting for a sequel\series.

I'd like to know if the "based on real events" and "names have been changed" and so forth was honest or just a ploy.

How would that help? I have no idea what a scope is or how it would help me find a way out. Neither did she i guess.

It is hard, at least for me, to tell what that was in the credits cutaway scene. To the left looked like the rifle butt with words scratched into it. Next to that looked to be a pistol stuck barrel down in the dirt and then to the right looked like something like a bald head with barbed wire pulled taut around it. But Wyatt was not bald. Honestly, I don't know what that scene was supposed to make viewers think, but for me it was not that Wyatt was alive.

"Wyatt chases Vivian through the mine, which contains many dead bodies, dolls, and a PA system that plays distorted music. Vivian hides among the dead bodies, then engages in a shoot-out with Wyatt, which causes a cave-in near him. The lights go out, and Wyatt's taunts her with manic laughter and militaristic rants. Vivian reaches the end of the mine and breaks through a boarded up exit. As she emerges into the daylight, she laughs hysterically. A note says that Vivian escaped to safety, and dozens of bodies were eventually found in the compound; however, Wyatt was never captured."

And yeah, I agree that it was so dark.
