Great... But

Got me well pumped up and I'm a 70 year old woman!! Though as i was watching I was thinking 'how are there gonna approach the subject of steroids? And I was pretty disappointed to see just a 3 minute part talking about them in the vaguest possible manner

I don't remember Eddie actually speaking in the section on doping.
it was a little concerning that his training paenter seemed to be advocating drug.

I honestly don't think there's that much to say about it. They all use it, it's not against the rules, but it's still illegal, so it's not something they can treat as openly as they would probably prefer.

All top athletes pay a price for what they do, this is what they pay, and from all I've read, they don't seem to regret it.

yeah this crossed my mind as well...I'm ok w steroid use but it should have been more of a topic in this movie -- more or equal to the nutrition part. You take away the gas (roids) and many of these guys don't come close to any record.

The movie's take on steroids was a little opaque, but, it was clear (to anyone's paying close attention) that these guys all use them. Even though a little doubt was introduced, it was nice that no one flat out denied it. That would've done a lot to discredit this film in my opinion.

Like the poster above me said, to spend so much time focusing on food and all the other necessary "inputs," leaving out the topic of steroids-- and all the strategies, costs and risks that they introduce, thus their significant role in this story-- does leave this film feeling not quite whole. Nevertheless, until society finds a way to handle the reality of constantly evolving "biotechnology," there will always be a missing piece to stories like this, no matter who tells them.

That aside, I thought this was a very well done documentary. Definitely recommended.

but to some of the kids (and uninformed lads) who happen to watch, they will simply think a gallon of milk and eating every 2 hours will be enough - - along with lifting.

I'm fairly certain he's running at least 3 diff types of gas (steroids).

reply

Well, to those uninformed kids and lads, a solid commitment to lifting, and lots of food really should be enough. ;)

I don't know how many people aspire to be the "world's strongest" type. The size of those guys is just hulking, and you can tell their health is severely compromised because of it. They are interesting to watch, and their dedication is amazing, but working out with some balance on aerobics and flexibility is far more beneficial (and to me it looks better, too). But I'm not in my 20's anymore...

reply

true but as we get older and don't have much testosterone--as we both do not, well not as much--it doesn't hurt to use a little gas. A little kick in the pants so to speak. Many men over 45 dip their toes in steroids.
