Why can't they speak normally?

Enough with the monotone, snotty throated kids! My gosh doesn't anyone listen to these kids actually speak? Jane sounds like she is a robot that has a nasty sinus infection.

Matthew is the one who gets on my nerves. He seems like a nice enough kid (they all do) but his voice is very nasally and he sounds like he has a head cold. Jane has the same thing but it isn't as pronounced as Matthew's. Maybe it's just a kid thing... I don't have one and it's been a while since I've BEEN one so I don't know.

I thought sevreal of these kids had head colds, but the congestion is still present weeks later. I'm assuming they either have allergies, or need their tonsils/adenoids removed. It is odd that so many of them sound clogged up.

The kids on Chopped Junior have the same problem. I'm wondering whether there's something in the air at the FN studios that's affecting the kids' sinuses.

Aside from the fact that some of the kids sound like they have a cold, I admire the fact that these all speak well, in actual complete sentences. You may be more used to what passes for language these days...you know, like I ain't got none, uh, uh, LOL, like you know, uh I hope my dessert is all awesome and amazing.

reply

Maybe there is something wrong with the ventilation in the Food Network studio that affects the kids but not the adults. That's a possibility. And you are right, despite their head cold - sounding voices, they are articulate and intelligent, which is refreshing.

reply

I love Jane but she is very nasally -- but also very sweet and funny.

reply

No. She is nasal; not nasally. Adverbs are not adjectives.

LOL. Alright, alright. 

Matthew is definetally the worst. I don't know why, it's gotta be something in the air but how come it only affects the kids thnk? It doesn't make sense.

Another theory, the producer thinks it's cute when kids sound nasal and encourages it....?

I've only heard it with Matthew and Jane, with Matthew's being the most pronounced (to me), and for some reason, it seems to be at its worst when they're doing their sit-down interviews/commentaries. I think the two of them must have sinus issues or something else that just magnifies the problem because I haven't heard any of the other kids (including the ones who've been eliminated) or Valerie or Duff talking that way.

I literally came to this board just to see if anyone else noticed how nasal they all are. Hahahahaha.

reply

So did I!I can't tell if Jane and Matthew have colds or if they just normally talk that way..and it was getting on my nerves so I jumped on here to make sure I wasn't the only one. They are amazing bakers and adorable..but..blow your nose.

reply

I thought it was just me that was annoyed with it. At all the "interview" parts shown between the baking and judging, I would yell at the kids to "blow their fücking noses and talk normally!" They know how to talk just fine when they are running around and baking, but when they sit alone and get filmed while talking to a producer, they either are all stuffed up and nasal, or are shy and monotone.
