Pregnant chick

I don't get it....she's obviously not pregnant. Wtf is going on?

That is the joke. Making fun of rich, thin women who want to have babies but don't want their bodies to change in the process.

This is where the show lost me. I was willing to go along with the joke about her stomach being completely flat in the earlier stages of pregnancy, but during LABOR? No! That took the sitcom joke into SNL territory. I deleted it from my DVR when I saw her having labor pains without even a poochy stomach.

It's funnier when there's at least some level of believability. They could have kept her nearly flat until right before birth and then shown her out jogging the next day in her sport's bra with a 6-pack. (Maybe they did do this part, but I was no longer watching. Regardless, I don't think the joke works without at least a food baby-sized stomach during labor.)

Agree. The character has a TEN POUND baby and zero baby bump. O.o I can understand comedy and satire, but this is farce territory. As you said, it's funnier if there's a degree of believability. It would be funnier if she had been a total stick with a baby belly. Also of all the actresses on the show, the lead (who proudly eats garbage--doughnuts and fries) is the skinniest. I know there are MANY naturally thin women, but they make such an effort to show her as a junk food eater that I'm waiting for that 'very special episode' to address Jill's bulimia. lol

There's a whole sub-genre of skinny female characters on tv shows who make a great show of consuming tons of junk food. Like Grace Adler from Will & Grace, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, and remember Rachel on Friends eating stolen cheesecake off the floor? There are like nine zillion articles about it online:

You know what I thought they were going to do was have it where it was revealed she was wearing one of those tummy flatter things throughout her pregnancy, I've known someone to do that since they were trying to hide the fact they were pregnant, and then since of course Jill delivered her baby she found out she was doing that all along.

It fails as a documentary about pregnancy. Oh, wait, it wasn't a documentary.

I work with two ladies who bound their bellies during pregnancy. It wasn't as flat as on this show but it was pretty flat.

reply

Silly comedy, not documentary about pregnancy.
