I find it pretty meh. I have one episode to go to before I finish the series, and I am in no hurry to watch it. The whole thing feels underwhelming. The case is actually interesting but something about the execution, the tone of the show and the characterizations makes the whole production feel insignificant.
The script wants us to believe the main female protagonist is a good cop, but in the big moments she literally freezes and seems to survive by luck. She has good investigating instincts, but she is horrible in the field and no convincing explanation is given for her short coming. It makes me wonder why of all the characters she is positioned so centrally. Despite the poor writing for the character the actress seems capable and she does as much as possible with the little she is given.
So medarve, I'd say if you don't return to this series you are not really missing much. It is a police mystery and I wouldn't count it as one of the greats or even a good one. It is just decent. I'd put it somewhat in the same league as Broadchurch which is widely loved though I found it pedestrian. So, if you loved Broadchurch this might have something to offer to you, though I'd say Broadchurch is slightly more compelling because it had a more thrilling tone and it makes more of an effort to engage the audience in solving the mystery.
