Sandra's boots

I've been a police officer for fifteen years. Both in uniform and detective. As a male I wear flat soled heavy-duty boots as do many of my fellow female officers.I've never seen a female detective wearing shoes with those types of heels - at least not while on-duty. But I just wrote it off to dramatic license. However when she took off running across that rocky beach with those boots I groaned out loud.....until she fell, cursed and threw them off of her feet.Bravo. I laughed and actually clapped my hands. The writers got me. Very good work.

I kept looking at her boots & thinking how impractical they were too! Maybe if she'd been wearing trainers though she might have got to the girl on the beach in time?!

reply

Possibly. But that's television for you.

I am still on Season 1 and thought now ridiculous, yet chic, those pointy-toed heeled boots are. Approaching a farmhouse through mud and overgrowth, I re-wound the scene to see if she, at last, had changed into a proper pair of shoes. Nope. Its silly. I haven't gotten to the rocky cliffs yet, but thanks for the warning. I'll try not to audibly groan.

I later found an interview with the actress. She talked about the boots. Those were her choice. She saw Sandra as a woman who considers herself to be a Parisian - tres chic. Therefore her stubborn insistence on wearing such impractical boots even though she's just a plain provincial flat-foot. Nice touch.
