Bloated script, brilliant performance

This was so heartbreaking to watch, because of the AMAZING performance by Audra, but her inbetween songs banter was teetering on ridiculous.

I've never heard a live show where Billie talked SO much, she basically told her whole life story. It was kinda bogging down the momentum and performance.

That said, she did very well imitating the singing voice (maybe not the speaking so much) but watching the tears roll down from her eyes and the sweat bead on her forehead...one of the best performances I've seen in a few years.

I wish they would write a good biopic and have Audra star in it. Lady Sings the Blues was a cheap vehicle for Diana Ross, who did a good job for a novice actor but captured NOTHING about the actual singer.

I almost had to stop watching this because it was so realistic and convincing, I was getting upset watching the last days of torment of one of the best vocalists of all time.
