Slab City

Who was the lady that Chris befriended in Slab City? I forgot her name. I've read that the majority of the people who live there are retirees or people on SSI/welfare or disability. She appeared to be about 50 in this film, but obviously she was much younger when she met him. I kept wondering why or how she was living there, and there alone.
