Did anyone else think (SPOILERS)

...that John would turn out to be the killer, and that everything involving his neighbor, Crowley, would have all been happening inside of his mind? Earlier in the movie, he quoted Ted Bundy as saying, "After you killed somebody, if you had enough time with them, they could be whoever you wanted them to be." Being that he was spending so much time with Crowley throughout the movie, I thought that line would define the whole movie, and that he was just seeing Crowley as this killer creature in his mind, and that Crowley would turn out to be one of his victims.

Later on, when it showed him seeing that woman hit by a van, but it had only happened in his mind, I really thought that confirmed it. Actually, I was glad I was wrong, because the whole, "Most of the movie's reality is taking place in the lead character's mind." plot has grown tiresome and should only be done if they can put a new spin on it.
