My 6 y/o daughter made excellent observation re: song in closing credits

She asked if the last song which was While My Guitar Gently Weeps by the Beatles was there b/c there are beatles in the movie. Brilliant, I wouldn't have caught it!

reply

I love how observant kids are and how their minds work!

reply

Not so sure how she caught that.

reply

Meh. Doesn't exactly illuminate the movie.

I, on the other hand found the George Harrison cover to be incredibly jarring and out of sync with the rest of the movie.

You are doing a great job as a parent so far. she already knows about the Beatles, Laika movies and stop motion animation.

reply

i think the significance was more about the song itself, about a guitar weeping (i.e. being played), and kubo's guitar, as opposed to beatles/beetle. but a good observation by a 6-year old either way!

I didn't think of that and I must say I really enjoyed the version of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.' When I noticed Kubo's teardrop falling on the shamisen earlier in the movie I immediately thought of George Harrison's song before hearing it at the end.
