I assume he's independent now, and has began his own business. He would be using the cooking methods taught him by the master Tokue. What does this signify to you? His finding his path of freedom? Is he more redeemed from his past mistakes?

He benefitted from knowing her in many ways. He had thought for many years she would never be allowed to leave the sanatorium but eventually did. She even set the canary free that she was given.

The selfish stand owner finally gave him the incentive to leave and be on his own. He had been working seven days a week for three years to repay a debt to her late husband.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else
