Documentary or Glossy TV Advert?

I just started watching the French portion of this series (Alain Passard) and couldn't get thru 15 minutes of it before I felt like I was watching a promotion rather than an objective observation of a French Chef's body of work. Even the dialogue of the translation plays out like a scripted American TV ad.

I am not fluent in French but watch a lot of French cinema it also felt like Chef Passard's words were scripted for an American layman. His colloquialisms and diatribes didn't feel natural at all, and his facial expressions and gesticulations all felt coerced and staged.

In the end, this reminded me of a lot of short TV ads you see in 5 Star Hotels like in Vegas or Norwegian Cruise lines. LOL
