So I don't get it. This looks like The Witch crossed with Far From the Madding Crowd. I mean audiences have soundly rejected movies like this- austere, intellectual masturbatory period pieces-, so why does Hollywood continue to make them and waste their money and people's time?
shareNo overly-familar actors, no explosions, no car chases, not the usual Jane Austen-type romance, not a remake, not a prequel or sequel, no CGI, and, I would guess, not a neatly packaged ending where all is well after all. And made by an independent film producer, not Hollywood.

I think it's meant to be more Far From The Madding Crowd than The Witch, just with more violence. It's not meant to be a horror film.
