Justin Bieber is Black?

Why did they name the Pop star or whatever "Justin Bieber" if they weren't even going to actually use Justin Bieber? Doesn't make sense to name a character after a celebrity and then not use the actual person and even to use someone of a different race is strange to me... But I don't know, let me know what y'all think

I think that you're the kind of person that CliffsNotes are for. Sorry.

I just started watching the show as well and I'd already heard the Justin Bieber episode was an instant classic. So when I saw that this was that episode I was excited...and then confused. Eventually I got the joke, but with all buzz I'd heard about the episode I assumed the real Bieber was in it.

I was perplexed by this decision as well. I thought maybe they were showing that no matter what race Justin is, he's still a lost soul looking for his place in this world, and that despite the mess he is, people still love him.

That's a fair statement. Did he actually admit to always trying to act cool or was he just doing that to introduce his new song?

It's called magic realism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_realism#Film). Just go with the flow.

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

I thought it was an obvious jab. The Biebs is corny as *beep* and adored by female fans.

reply

It was a casting gag.

It worked beautifully

I think it was poking fun at the fact Bieber has stolen from black culture to ascend the pop charts.

reply

and he made racist comments about black people before he was famous which is why i despise that little shithead phaggot punk motherfucker

reply

Everyone kept saying that Bieber was getting in trouble and being different because he was "acting black." So, they made him black, so that you could see that it's not a product of race, but immaturity.

reply

Everyone kept saying

Never heard that before in my life.

It threw me off at first, but as with the clip from the Nightclub ep with the invisible car, it shows that Atlanta's going all surreal while still mixing real life things in.

And i caught the commentary less Bieber in real life appropriating black culture and more that, even if Bieber were black, he'd still be a douchebag.
