Is Francis not in this??

Is anyone else upset at the apparent fact that Francis character seemms to have been dropped from the film altogether? To me Maes interaction with him told more about her character and frame of mind just as much if not more than any of her other interactions in the book. His many flawes..he was sexually and emotionally dissapointing to Mae throughout the novel...Yet...she chose to continue her relationship with him...I think this was one of the most interesting aspects of the storyline. As I kept asking myself...Why in th world does she put up with him...is it because she felt so bad for him and his past as a child in foster care and what he endured....I can't understand why they would leave this aspect out of the film...to me this is what gave Mae some depth?

I've read the script and it does seem like they've kicked Francis to the curb. they even seem to give a scene ment for Francis to Kalden at least Mae doesn't have to worry about wanting to bury her fist in anyone's face in this addition.

Could you link me to the script?

Hope you got it while it was up.

I have no idea if they have dropped Francis from the film adaptation, he is indeed a pretty interesting character to be included in the film but I've noticed that there are two cast members portraying characters with the names of Kevin and Guppy. I've read the book some while ago and I cannot remember exactly if there were any characters with those two specific names, so I was thinking that maybe Francis is indeed in the film with just an alternate name, instead of the original one.

i can see why they dropped francis. his character doesn't really move the plot forward, and there's already another love affair to be established (kalden) as well as the protagonist's ex-bf (mercer). movies always call for simplification, so the less relevant sub-plots of a novel get dropped.
