Kind of like this show...

people mostly living off the land-free from all the craziness and BS of 'civilization' and yet a clueless developer thinks he can "add Value" to the town of McCarthy by developing it economically (he would mostly benefit) The guy isn't really evil but he is living in the wrong town.
America is so messed up by his kind of thinking-we already have several 'Disneylands' across the lower 48-why spoil this town if everyone is doing just fine? only 6 episodes since August.....?

I agree, he thinks that the town needs to be improved and will do it no matter that he is the only one that wants it. He said he is "only improving his property" but yet digs up the street (which is not his) with out asking or cars what they think. He does not own the whole town and what he does effects every one and they have a say in that. If wants to improve a town go to one that wants to be improved.

You two don't really buy into the totally manufactured "conflict" in this show, do you?

It is all so fake and unrealistic that it defies logic.

Who has done the manufacturing?

The desire to make money at other people's expense -- while telling them it's for their own good -- is hardly new. (Clash of the Ozarks has exactly the same theme, but looks more-obviously manipulated.) Neil would be quick to condemn liberals for telling other people how they should live -- but he does exactly the same thing.

Perhaps the most telling/damning thing about Neil... is that he shaves. None of the other adult men do.

The thing is, these people don't seem to want ANY government in the town, and therefore there is no planning committee as there is in most communities, even small ones. They have no recourse to stop anything Neil wants to do. On one hand, they want to live free, but on the other, they don't want Neil to live free, do they?

never dawned on me that this was a fake show-i could see real people living like that and then have a flatlander come in and want to put in a 7-ll, a SONIC, and a PLANET HOLLYWOOD

He's like the character Maurice in Northern Exposure. He was an astronaut who moved to Roslyn and wanted to make it a big resort. I immediately thought of him when I watched the first episode of this show.
