Why not just make a documentary about the town?

Instead of a TV show trying to make the town look like something it's not, focused on fake people in contrived situations, I would spend money for a documentary about the history of the town.

Luckily, I don't have to spend money. I'm simply reading about the town, and reading about how fake the show is. Thanks, Google!

Even with the fake conflicts, the show is still less exciting than watching grass grow. I thought I'd give it another chance, but after 15 minutes of watching the short bus refugee tying sled dogs to a plow made out of broken axel springs I had to throw in the towel.

You're right! I usually fall asleep during this show. I tried to stay tuned because I wanted to see more about the family of Robert Hale, or the massacre by Lou Hastings, but they keep talking about boring stuff like how the token woman is mad because her boss told her to clean up the bar, or a really cheesy dogsled ride.

Apparently, there is a book about Robert Hale called Pilgrim's Wilderness. Of course, Lou Hastings has a bazillions websites about him... his being a mass murderer and all. So now I can just skip this whole show altogether.

Also, I wanted to see more sex. I'll be honest. Small towns are so boring, but the sex is usually powerfully suppressed so that it sprays all over the place like champagne.

If you want a show with sex in it, a show about a small Alaska town with 90% men is probably not the show for you!

Yes, I would prefer 100% men from a small Alaska town.

Right, if it was more along the lines of the Alaska Last Frontier show it would be much better. No drama, just how they manage to survive day after day, month in month out. That would be a show worth watching. Not fake drmana about hanging a stoplight in town when there isn't even any auto traffic to speak of.

They do the same thing with Yukon Men. Another show about life in a small Alaskan town, where they add a bunch of fake drama that adds nothing.

i haven't read anything about the town or the show.
i'm 10 minutes into the first episode and it is fake, fake, fake, fake.
my first 10 minutes will be my last 10 minutes.

 Congratulations... you lasted 10 minutes more than me... finally more and more people are getting to see these cheaply produced, scripted, staged, faked Reality shows, for the garbage they have always been....

If you deflect the topic of the thread from the show to me, our discussion is over

I watch the show mostly just to try and learn a little about what life is like in the town. The parts I like most are things like Jeremy teaching his son how to spot wolf tracks and learning that there's a mail plane once a week. The conflicts and drama between the characters doesn't interest me.

reply

I agree, it is so interesting to watch Jeremy teaching his son all he needs to know to survive. Jeremy is actually quite eloquent, and makes a very good narrative. I love reality shows, and don't understand why they have to muck them up with scripting and contrived drama.

...and the way you know these are "fake" people (I assume you mean actors) in contrived situations is...?

The problem with a documentary is that there's little profit in it. You can't spread it out over several seasons.
