Was I the only one who thought of Medicine Man?

Is it possible this director saw Sean Connery in 1992's, Medicine Man and said I can make a serious drama out of this? Don't get me wrong, the trailer looks appealing and I may venture out to see this film next month, but wondering if anyone else made that immediate comparison?

reply

As soon as I read the synopsis, I immediately thought of Sean Connery and that movie. I quite liked MM (1992), but I doubt that I'll check this one out.

Holy smokes... 99 channels and there's nothing on! - The Kid (2000) 

reply

You might want to check it, compares to Herzog's Aguirre, believe me!!!

reply

Aguirre is a much more compelling movie. No comparison at all.

reply

It was like Aguirre meeting 2001: A Space Odyssey ;)

reply

Agree with Aguirre and 2001, but also thought of Fitzcarraldo

reply

Uh, that whiny Loraine Braco.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

The writer/director Ciro Alegria lives in Colombia, so he would have been able to think of making a movie about the Amazon without having seen Medicine Man. MM is good, but this movie is a masterpiece. Don't miss it.

Alegria's earlier film, The Wind Journeys, also has indigenous people of Colombia, though in smaller roles.

Your understatement made me laugh! Thanks for the other film recommendation. As you wrote, this film is a MASTERPIECE.
He kicked me right in the middle of my daily routine

I saw a little of "Dead Man" in this, plus a hint of "Apocalypse Now."
