OMG! IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! There was never before seen footage, personal letters and details I never knew before. Wow! What a Life. Well done piece of work, a true and moving documentary of this Legendary Goddess come to Earth to bless us with her Talent for just a little while. Yet, her music will live on forever.

@KassyL you took the words out of my mouth. This was an amazing docu.

I cried for hours! I knew some of the stuff but I didn't know about her manager/husband. The editing of the diary and the music was superb.

I this she her triggers were brought on by the abuse she's endured from all sides. I feel so bad for her daughter too. Genius!

It wasn't as cohesive as i would've liked...it gave an overview of point to point without a lot of depth.

With that being said, it was a great doc. What a dynamic, tragic life.

THEY SHOOTIN'! ah, i made you look.

I thought it was a fabulous documentary, and I felt really sad for her with all of the stuff that she had to put up in her life and mental illness.

The parts that talked about her bipolar disorder and civil rights involvement were the only parts that were really well explained to me. Everything else was kinda glossed over.

I agree. I'd never even heard of her before. Would love for the documentary to have gone more into depth. Nina Simone had such a full plate of talent and life. I'm so glad she got a chance to enjoy it and I'm glad her daughter shared her memories (good and bad) of her astounding mother with us.

I loved it! Perhaps it could have been more expansive, but given that I've listened to her music for years never really knew anything about her, nor seen any clips of her, it was more than I could have asked for. I'm grateful to have seen her in concert shortly before she died.

I agree, and I wasn't really loving the way they approached the documentary. The first part had promise, but it petered out from the middle to the end.

I agree. As compelling as her story and Nina herself, the documentary had no cohesiveness but just droned on. Sort of like a stream of consciousness. I had the documentary on background while doing other things like writing this review and googling about her life.
