General Thoughts On the Show

So I was recommended this show by internet people and I'm really enjoying it. The animation is gorgeous, the story and characters are interesting... however I have a few nit picky topics.

The masks mounted above the elevator, I like to think one represents Heaven and the other one Hell. But I have seen their position change several times throughout the first four episodes. Do they change according to the fate of the people? I've also seen the white mask featured twice, does that mean the characters that played the game both get reincarnated? (I'm not familiar with the belief system but I heard it was mentioned somewhere)

Decim's character. I don't like how blatant they are making his character development. There aren't many subtle hints to show us that he's reacting to these people's emotions, instead they decide to throw it in your face with a shot of his pupil constricting. I don't know, maybe it's just personal preference.

Also, by all means help me out on this one, but does the outcome of the game at all decide whether someone goes to Heaven or Hell? Because the games all seem to be designed to bring out the darkness in people, and I get that. But does someone winning over another person dictate anything about their fate?

Overall I love the show and look forward to watching more.

To my understanding, there isn't even a heaven or hell. They either get reincarnated or their soul is thrown into a void. As for the game, it is purely to bring the darkness out of someone's soul vs. the winner being seen more favorably. Hence why, as seen in episode 4, Decim sometimes interferes in the games to trigger a memory or a reaction. And I think even when the game is over the person is being judged. I just wish, like they did with the first judgement, the post credit scene would tell us what happened.

Don't usually like Anime, but found this to be decent. Well, initially I did. The follow up episode to the premiere sucked some of my interest out of the show.

Interested to see how the arbiters are recruited and what they are.

Yeah the show started trailing off of what I hoped it would be. But I'm fine with what it's become. I'm specifically interested in the relationship between black haired assistant lady and blue haired leader lady (I'm drawing a blank on all of their names except for Decim's right now.)

to the mask question, yes...i do think they change positions according to decims decisions. for example in ep 3, both got reincarnated.

The hannya mask represents The Void, while the waka-onna mask represents Reincarnation. Both of these masks have strong roots in Japanese culture and mythology which you may be interested in reading about.

The arbiter presiding over the games is the one who decides the fate of the individuals. That is, after all, their role. Winning the games doesn't necessarily mean anything; it's your behaviour during judgment which plays the big role in how things will be decided.

As the show progresses, though, it is pointed out that this system is flawed, because the arbiters do whatever they can to incite the darkness within the two individuals. Forcing someone into a corner is not really the best way to judge their overall character.

The character development of the other characters outside of Onna and Decim suffers from the short running time.

I would've liked to have seen more of Ginti, Castra, and Clavis. It looks like Ginti kept Mayu's hair teddy bear after she was cast into the void, so I can't help but think there must've been more to his character outside of being a complete bastard. And I think Castra was really underused. It also felt like they were building up to some big underlying plotline or something with Oculus but nothing happened.

Can anyone explain why Ginti kept one of his guests around and why the guy guest's soul trailed off? Did I miss something?
