No need to...

kill the dog and cat...

Although off screen, it adds nothing to the plot...

I don't even remember there was a dog? But the cat scene bugged me. Totally agree, violence against pets is a no.

Yeah it's fine for hundreds humans to get killed, but one animal? That's just going too far!

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

To make a point of going back into the house just to kill the cat just showed how stupidly desperate they were to add shock value. Same when they repeated the penis dismemberment scene, once was more than enough.

I dug this film's take-no-prisoners harsh attitude.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find

Yeah kids and animals are usually off limits, even to horror movies (the vast majority anyway, we all know of serbian film and ones like that, but those are the exception and not the rule), so it was refreshing to see one not play favorites. I don't 'like' those kinds of scenes in terms of happy/fun enjoyment, but they lend themselves to horror movies pretty well because of how disgusting and vile they are.
