Anyone believe her mother?

The most recent ep. (5/5) ended with a phone call from her mother. She implied that That Billie was her mother's and step dad's love child, which means she IS related to Billy. I for one don't believe it. After they left, her parents tried to think of some story that would almost certainly break them up.

That's what I'm thinking (& hoping), too.

It certainly could be true, but it seems like the mother would have mentioned it the first time she and Billie disagreed about the relationship with Billy (in the restaurant, for example).

That's a whole new ballgame if true, and since it's just now coming up, I think it's a ruse.

I guess there is DNA test coming up in Season 2! :)

I think they are smart enough to do a test and not trust the parents.

IF it is really true will they continue is the question?

Billie really seamed disgusted

You have to wonder just how whack her mom is if it wasn't true and she thought that she could pull a con on them. Compared to her mom, Billie is heroically well adjusted.

I really don't understand how it makes sense.

A man can have a baby outside of marriage - but how does he do that, then bring the kid back to his wife and have her pretend its hers?

This isn't Ned Stark... It has to be her mom playing games

The girl was born to the mother. So when the Stepfather came into the picture he would have been her real dad w/o having the courage to let her know.
He was really creepy by the way kissing her on her mouth like that. blech
clearly got a pedo vibe from him.

about the mother i don't know but she seemed like she wanted to talk about something at the restaurant when Billie had her temper tantrum and they both ended up in tears.

i think if what she says is true the parents were never sure if the stepdad was the real dad and never bothered testing his fatherhood. otherwise she wouldn't have said do the math but here's proof.

Top of the lake had a similar sideplot it reminded me of that.

i really hope the mother is bluffing. hopefully a season 2 will tell.

I believe her. Now it makes sense why she was so incredible upset about it and the way she looked at them when she found them together in bed. I just hope they think she is lying and do a DNA test only to find out her mom was telling the truth. Being related just makes things more interesting and complicated.

I don't think the parents actually feel certain that they are half siblings, as I doubt they ever got DNA tests to verify back at the time that Billie was born. But they have always suspected that it was possible based on the timing of their previous affair. So, just the possibility was enough to make the mom panic, though when they seemed to have called off their relationship, I believe she no longer felt it was necessary to tell them. But, now that the relationship is back on, she wanted them to know it's possible, and not because she is afraid they'd get their DNA tested, but because she really hopes they do.

Right!

I'm re-watching the series, and just right now watching the episode where the mom catches them together and has the freak-out in the car. She says things such as: "the thought of my two children together" and "you don't know how bad it is, believe me". It all makes sense in light of the parents thinking that Billie is their love child. Maybe Mom isn't bluffing, but at the same time there isn't proof -- at least not yet.

On another note, it's been a while (well, not that long I guess, lol) since I watched the show, so I was hoping it would hold up as well on re-watch as it did the first time and in my memory -- it does! :-)

The Mom seems to be a real piece of work. If indeed they happen to be related, she probably named her Billie intentionally out of spite or something. Seriously. Was it supposed to be coincidental that she named her Billie not knowing her "supposedly" biological brother is named Billy? I don't think so, but okay..... That woman's got a lot of explaining to do if that happens to be the case, but something tells me she's going to deal with the whole situation as little as possible and try to move on like it's not her problem in the long run and place blame on the "Billies" for doing what they did like they should have known better.

Some people..... I tell ya.....

I'm hoping they're not related to one another though. Then again I hope this gets renewed for a second season before anything else. Hopefully it does.
