Unsuitable for typical American audiences or anyone really

who prefers to be entertained by immature horror - zombies, possession, gore fest, jump scares, etc - but those film goers who are cultured, know a little history and have genuine interest in real horror. Will love this film. I promise you

Yup, what a let down. I don't need blood, gore or even too much action. I can appreciate the metaphors in this film and the tension that it held. But there were a lot of elements that seemed to lead to nothing and the ending was a disappointment. It felt so much longer than it was, because it was boring. Some beautiful cinematography, good acting, an intricate period of history to expore... but all for what? That's how I feel about it. I want to watch A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night though, I think it looks more creative and gripping.

Yes, but don't you love photosynthesis?

You should re-read the post you're answering to.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

...my point being that there are other reasons why people won't enjoy this film, as horror fans or otherwise. If anyone else bothers to read this, I really should have saved time and said avoid this boring movie like hell.

Wow, what a ignorant douche you are. I believe one can be "cultured," know history, be intelligent and still enjoy gore movies. Or gore movies, as well as films like "Under the Shadow", for that matter. All you said about yourself is, like, "look at me, I find horror movies filmed for entertaining value unsophisticated - now please, tell me I'm smart." Pathetic.

Then how did I see and enjoy this movie with subtitles, if I'm American? 

Peter, is your social worker in that horse?

Immaturity is not the problem with any of these it is the fact they each has been flooded with bad quality movies featuring these elements. As you seem to claim that you know a little horror history you should know this. Its not as though there is not a lot of terrible quality horror ghost stories as I am sure you will well know. Now this film is a rare treat for a horror movie it does not over do things and keeps a genuine tension though out but I don't think you need to be cultured to enjoy it.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock
