I'm only about a quarter of the way thru the film, and already hate the mom.. I think I know where this film is going as in direction, but I'm not pulling for the female lead at all..

Well let's see: She was a self absorbed, whiney, impatient, condescending, unappreciative, unrealistic cunt...... for starters.

I agree. Irrational, stubborn and inmature. She waited too much until she finally decided to leave to place. Also, she made very bad decisions like letting her daugher alone in multiple times, or being in denial about the visions they were having.

Agree, obviously she’s under stress but she’s a total narcissist. The father tells her he’s been conscripted to be used as cannon fodder for the government and all she can think about is how it disadvantages her.
