I somehow doubt that, but it's still possible now that we have a possible explanation of Wolf Man's origin.
Well, one more reason to get hyped up about this movie.
I can assure you that there is absolutely no connection between these two films. Yes, the character design shows a few similarities, but no more than you could find between any two films from, say, Miyazaki.
shareI was watching it and thinking the same thing. There is a striking resemblance with the 2 characters, you can kind of piece together a basic story that connects the 2 films, but no connection otherwise.

Unfortunately you cannot piece them together without overlooking the fact that the protagonist (Ren / Kyuuta) is not a werewolf and there is no inference of such a state being possible (being half man and half beast). Now... that is not to say there couldn't have been a different character in the same universe that WAS that way for some other reason, but not Ren / Kyuuta in my opinion.
shareThat's what I meant to say, you can piece them together but you'd have to overlook facts, but someone can add imaginary facts to piece them together like the character maybe drinking a potion from the animal world that turns him into a werewolf, he then decides to abandon the animal world altogether and change his name then we pick up right at Wolf Children. Not probable but not impossible either.

A movie to bridge all that would be ahmazing!
