One thing that would’ve made this movie even better
...to me, is if they didn’t show anything having to do with the witch on screen until the last scene. Take out the scene with the baby ritual, the boy being lured to the hut, and the scene where she appears in the barn towards the end.
Elimante any physical presence of the witch to add an element of paranoia on whether or not the witch is actually real or the family are just superstitious. They we’re kind of heading in that direction, with a few scenes of the family members pointing fingers at each other. I think this was affective, but I think it would’ve even been more suspenseful if the audience wasn’t sure if there actually even was a witch at all, if the family was just off their marbles.
I can see how some may disagree. I just think that this could’ve made the movie even more intense because situations like this actually did happen in early colonial history, where families and communities were at odds with eachother due to rumors of witchcraft and satanism.
