A better version (spoilers)

Just watched this, and was very disappointed. I wanted to see Caleb tell them of the witch in the forest, and exonerate all other suspects. Then, i'd would have loved to see the Dad hunt the witch in the woods, and split her head open with an axe. After that, he places it on a stick outside their camp, and waits for the other witches to come for revenge, planting those bear traps all about the camp. Getting a few with the traps, and the wife stabbing one in the eye, while the goat rams another to death. The end would show Caleb barely recovering long enough to shoot the gun at the last witch as she is about to kill his mom. The Dad is badly injured, but is able to survive, and they have enough wood to make it through the winter. Cut to spring, and show their little camp thriving, and the tree in full bloom.
Instead we got utter trash, trying to blame each other of being witches, and killing each other, then the daughter selling her soul. This garbage really irritated me. Maybe satanists liked it though, i guess it would be right up their alley. Making fun of hardcore religious people, showing how they would kill each other when faced with a obvious evil surrounding them? Yeah right. How can they portray it was that bad? Sure the Salem witch trials were one thing, but this movie was an absolutely ridiculous in it's attempt to make fundamentalists look bat shit crazy. Sorry, i'm not buying it satanists. It's a shame real God fearing people don't control hellyweird, because they would make a movie that would blow this junk out of the water.

Hopefully not you though. I guess you don't have a thing for atmospheric horror movies. Why don't you just have John McClean pop in an yippie all the witches into Christianity?

reply

Sure, just point me to one atmospheric horror movie where good triumphs over the witches, and i'll go watch that and be happy. I doubt you can though because like i said, a bunch of ahole satanists run the movie industry.

reply

It's supposed to be a horror movie. Why should good triumph over evil? Perhaps you might be happier with something like Sleepy Hollow.

reply

Well, i see your point, but Sleepy Hollow is not really gritty enough though. It's like Edward scissorshands bubblegum horror really. I was thinking like The Witch setting and atmosphere, but where the righteous survive, and barely triumph over evil (like in the plot i outline above). Something that really resonates with the viewer. Something visceral, and without Johnny Depp 21 Jump street star, lol. I would be happy to stop complaining if you know of any such movie. I just don't think hellywood has the guts to make one because it would piss off their satanic masters too much. The Shining comes close, where the wife and child triumph over the evil Hotel, and possessed father. So does Poltergeist, where the family wins out over Reverend Kane, but i've seen those two movies too many times now. Also, i was looking for something made more recently, and with fundamentalist survivor types taking out some witches in a close fight.

Try The Shrine (2010)

Thank you! I will give it a shot. :-)

Just be aware that there are times when they are speaking polish? I think, it's been awhile since I've seen it, and there aren't any subtitles. This is intentional.
