Laundromat scene....

Did anyone else feel sad for Michelle in the scene where she tries to get a job at the laundromat and got turned down? That scene always makes me sad.

you shouldn't need a high school diploma to work a low paying minimum wage job you don't have to have a degree for!

You have two applicants applying for a job both of whom will make the same if hired. Who do you choose...the person with a basic education, or the other who has no education?

Yes, that scene was undoubtedly put in to create the sympathy for her. She specifically was telling her son how she was gonna get a job and promised him this or that. Not that the sympathy isn't justified, just strategically placed to pull at those heart strings. I liked the movie, I thought it was well done given the darkness of the subject matter. From the written accounts, seemed pretty accurate as well.

I didn't get that scene, I don't remember why she couldn't get the job but I remember being confused about the reason why because it didn't really make sense to me. She didn't have a highschool diploma or something? Really? To work at a laundromat?

I guess it takes quite a bit of smarts and intelligence to clean out lint traps and fold towels. Seriously, that scene was ridiculous. That woman who turned her down should be ashamed of herself. If I was Michelle I would have asked to see her master's degree in laundro-mat services.
