Really?

The two "classy, pretty" girls who have family rejected Michelle? What were they so afraid would surface about them that made Michelle a threat?

reply

I wonder that myself. I read Michelle's book and she thanks them in her acknowledgments and wishes them the best. I wonder if Amanda and Gina thank Michelle in their book.

reply

I don't think they were threatened they just had a hard time moving on from the experience that they had to let eachother go, imagine if you were in a traumatic situation would you not avoid stuff that would make you think about that situation?

And it's possible that Michelle wanted to talk about the abduction everyday which would force the other 2 to think about it as well

It's like when you're depressed, the last thing you need is other people telling you how much their lives sucks and stuff

Hopefully they re unite at some point when they've got their lives back on track, but at the end of the day they didn't hang out in the Cleveland home because they wanted to and liked eachothers company, they did that because they were forced

Have you ever stared fear and danger in the eye and said; YES?

reply

Michelle is the one who distanced herself from them, in order to heal.
They approached her about being apart of the book they wrote together, but Michelle declined and then wrote her own book.
I don't know why in the movie it portrayed it that way, when it was the other way around

I live in Cleveland. We have a totally different perspective here, seeing Gina, Michelle, and Amanda around town, living their lives to the fullest. We are extremely happy for them, and I am so proud that they live in my city. Please know NO ONE HAS REJECTED ANYONE! Michelle chose immediate media attention, which is her right, and Amanda and Gina chose not to go that path. But because of that, the "why aren't they all friends anymore" rumors have persisted for over a year. None of these women have ever said anything negative about one another's characters at all. Castro played them one against the other in the house, and that led to petty jealousies, but they absolutely did not reject one another when they were freed; they just went their own ways. They had had no human contact except with Castro and one another for ten years; it is so hard for us to imagine, but if that happened to us, we would embrace the outside world once we were freed, we would want to soak up everything about it. As much as the women care for and still love one another, if they tried to remain in relationship with one another now, that would take valuable energy away from all the potential relationships that are out there for them.

Amanda wasn't classy, just an average pot smoking teen trying to do better than her mum.

Gina was 14, I don't even think classy applies
@ that age.
They were all poor and for the exception of Gina,
came from abusive families.

Mandy's mum n dad drank and fought heavily.

Gina & Mandy's fam often attended vigils
together & the girls would see them on Telly while
in captivity, so that goes a long way in creating
a bond as well.

In the book Hope, It's indicated that Gina was growing
frustrated with Michelle for constantly riling up
Castro. Castro included Gina from activities and
excluded Michelle, so they were kinda growing apart already. Mandy never got on with Michelle "we are just different people" she says in her memoir.
