Was "Room" based on this?

I know it's a very different story, but it's the same situation. I guess they got the idea from what happened in Cleveland.

Room is fiction and was based on the kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard.

Shouldn't Dugard's story have been called "The Tent"? She never lived in a room, but in the backyard in a makeshift tent made from tarps and other assorted junk.

I read that the author of Room was inspired by the story of Elizabeth Fritzel

It wasnt based on any particular story, it was a work of fiction
