Who's to Blame?

Should the girls have gotten into his car? NO

Should Michelle Knight's family searched for her more? YES

Should the cops have done a better job and listened to neighbors' complaints? YES

All of these things were mistakes, but there really is only ONE person to blame- Ariel Castro. May He Rot In Hell.

Thank you! I get sick of the constant victim blaming. Then they blame the parents and the police, even the general public, when the blame should all fall squarely on the criminal.

Amen!

No one is to blame except Castro but the girls should of known better. There are some evil people out there who enjoy hurting others. You cant trust anyone not even people you know. The boogie man is real.

Oh, please. Who wants to live in your world of total paranoia? They could have gotten rides from a thousand complete strangers and nothing would have happened to them. Most people are good.

reply

Teaching kids about the real dangers that exist in the world is a responsible thing to do. One can be cautious without being paranoid.

reply

What does "should of" actually mean?

Since he was a neighbourhood father it is perfectly reasonable to think girls would get into his car, as opposed to a complete stranger. I know at least one of those girls had parents who didn't necessarily tell her how dangerous the world is. Even parents with the best intentions want to shelter their children from the true horrors of the world we live in. I believe it's a massive disservice personally to not warn your children about the hell hole you've brought them into, but that's not how people usually think.

My mother told me explicitly I was in danger in this world, not to get into cars, and to be weary at all times of who was around me, to always let people know where I was going and who I was with. Some parents believe it's nice to "maintain childhood innocence" and pretend these things don't go on, probably what these girls' parents did, plus he was someone they thought they could trust as the parent of children in the area.

So for those reasons I really don't think we can put any "blame" on these girls as "should have known better" when there is absolutely no reason they should have known better.

One person is to blame: CASTRO. The girls were victims. Anything they did to survive while in captivity is what they had to do in order to survive.
