The premise reminds me of "Before Sunrise" which is about a man and a woman meeting and going on their first date. I've never seen Before Sunrise because it sounded boring and so does Southside with You. LOL

shareI have seen "Before Sunrise," and "Southside" does seem very "inspired" by it. It happens over the course of several hours. It's a date where the location is very important. There is no real conflict; they mainly just discuss how they see the world, etc.
Is Richard Linklater getting a screenwriting credit on this?
It is definitely heavy on the dialogue (not a criticism). It's a light rom com in tone but a lot of relatively substantive conversation as well. In terms of dialogue, I'd compare it to Whit Stillman's movies, such as Metropolitan and Barcelona.
