Edge of Darkness?

I have yet to watch this feature but intend to as it sounds good.

Based on the imdb summary it seems to cover similar themes to the brilliant 1980's "Edge of Darkness" mini-series starring Bob Peck that covers loss, ghosts and redemption (of a sort), all wrapped-up within a murder investigation.

For anyone who has seen both is that a fair comparison and how would you rate each?

Only goes to show you shouldn't judge books by their cover or tv shows by their imdb summaries.

The two have absolutely nothing in common. Everything, from the tone to the storyline, is different.

There are no ghost in River, just manifestations of his guilt.

Also, River is a character with issues, loss is just exacerbating them. So I wouldn't say it's about loss so much as about the fact he's disconnected from the world and he lost with his partner the only connection he had to it.

River's tone is decidedly dark and noir. It's got nothing to do with politics, activism or anything of that kind.

Edge of Darkness was a decent watch for the 1980ies but River is a must-see, imo. It's so layered, they keep digging deeper and it's just been two episodes.

Edge of Darkness was brilliant.

This is not.

So disagree! Really, do watch this - it is wonderful and gripping (I have watched every episode several times already and have it on pre-order) and am mourning its imminent loss (last episode next week). If you don't come out of episode 2 totally invested in the lead character, we can never be friends!!

I have watched this. The two series might as well be on a different planet.

Edge Of Darkness remains one of my favourite television shows. However, this tops it, in my opinion. Stella SkarsgÄrd should win every award going , at the end of the year. As for Nicola Walker, what a year she has had, River, Last Tango, Unforgotten and now View From The Bridge on Broadway. Love her!
