Plot Question Episode 1

River climbs a tree, finds a rope, and is visited by the dead girl, who tells him that she hanged herself, but that her boyfriend didn't hang himself, as they had planned. He has confessed to her murder. River visits him in jail, and tells him that he will be released. How does River prove to anyone that the boyfriend is innocent?

Any help on this? I enjoyed the program, but this seems like an enormous plot hole.

reply

I think River found two ropes, indicating that both kids were planning to kill themselves.

reply

Still.....Is that actually enough to resolve a police investigation? It seems that the police would have to accept the testimony that River received from the dead girl.

reply

I'm sure they just spaired us wievers the obvious paperwork and other formal stuff. They trusted us to get the picture anyway.
Great show!!.

reply

Right. Paperwork and a lot of forensic investigation.

The manifest told me the boy's lawyer would coerce his client to accept River's version of the event.

reply

River says he found her. Her body was there too, as well as the rope and her clothes.

With clear physical evidence of suicide, there's no cause to charge the young man.

I mean, why not just "Snuffcarcass"?

reply

Clear evidence of suicide? How do you figure that? He still could have killed her. I was wondering the same thing as the original poster (even though I could barely understand what River said to the boyfriend in the interrogation room??)

reply

He still could have killed her.
How?

She died there by hanging herself. All the physical evidence supports that, since it's what happened. That the girl's Romeo felt emotionally responsible doesn't change its being obviously a suicide.

The show thought its viewers could figure this out and didn't need to be spoon-fed a crime scene analysis and post-mortem examination. Evidently in some cases, it was wrong about this.

"Look! I'm a prostitute robot from the future!"

reply

How could you possibly prove that she hanged herself and that somebody else didn't do it?? You have absolutely nothing to support this claim.

reply

Already answered. I'm sorry you don't know what those really quite simple words mean but you can just look them up for yourself.

I can't believe some people think a murderer could force someone to climb a tree with them, inclusive of ropes. Going willingly up a tree with a rope is emphatically declarative of one intentions. Further, the web page posts and the Romeo and Juliet references leave no doubt.

Some common sense people.
