Pretty cool with practical SFX

For once i was pleasently surprised watching an unknown, to me, movie. It started out kinda bland, but quickly spun into old school creature feature with pretty awesome old school practical gore fx.
For such a low budget, they accomplished what a lot of big budget movies fail to do,entertain.

All in all, very pleasently surprised.

I loved the practical effects. The first monster reveal was pretty sweet, reminded me so much of The Thing. It was a like a mash up of The Thing, Hellraiser and In The Mouth of Madness.

Indeed, the practical effects were glorious. The creatures actually reminded me of the game 'Dead Space'. I thought the movie was more influenced by 'From Beyond' then Hellraiser. I'm not sure why people bring Hellraiser in, the connection seems very tenuous.

The ending for me, with Powell as the demon guy claiming he had conquered death. And when they were in the basement with all the grotesque looking people reminded me of the makeup in Hellraiser. Those are the only two instances where it gave me that vibe.

The 'conquered death' part is also in 'From Beyond'. The makeup of the demon guy does have a bit of the Hellraiser vibe.

The effects were great fun. The story felt a bit incoherent though.

The plot was poorly explained. It lacked a lot of character and story development
