Of course there is sadness in the film; the fellow is only has about a year to live due to a cancerous tumor. One may shed tears in parts of the film, but it is not a depressing film. It is a love story that will most likely bring smiles as well as tears as it tells how the family and their friends cope with the coming death. No, he does not die in the end. The film actually ends before his death with a feeling of positive acceptance of their lives. I was sad about his impending death, but I was happy with the manner in which they faced it. It was a good film.
