Hey, at least...

Riley had the sense to call into work, unlike Sam.

reply

Don't forget the fact that Riley seems to have a decent job/salary so he can afford to take off work. Sam on the other hand was just a waitress, and was on the edge of being broke.

"Just a waitress"?

Don't say that around Rachel Green

reply

Couldn't agree more.

And he actually had a decent reason to avoid the hospital unlike Sam.

You're right. And I understand what the other posters mean. When you wait tables, hopefully you're walking with cash everyday, but rarely do you have health insurance. Some restaurants require you to get your shift covered if you need to take the day off last minute.

I understand the disease was eating away at her brain and she was not thinking logically, but there is absolutely no way I would have agreed to still go into work in that condition.

There is no way the owner/manager would have her working looking like that. Short handed or not.

I understand what you mean.

But have you ever worked in full table service, food service? There is a huge turn-over in that industry. Management that I have worked with in the past wouldn't have picked up tables to help(maybe run a drink order out to the table) so that would have still left Samantha as the only real option at that time.

I think had she refused to work, she would have been fired. When you make cash like that daily, losing your job is devastating. No PTO pay out to look forward to, and no big paycheck coming in a week or two either.

I've seen servers come in on no sleep, still drunk from the previous night, coming down from drugs, having full-on flu-like symptoms, and still be expected to carry on with their restaurant duties as usual.

Food service is a beast! Glad I escaped that black-hole

Note to self: We are eating in tonight.
