Major Red Flag

Something that stood out as a major red flag for me was the "servant/hermit" of the goddess "Our Lady Underground" that Julia and Kady visited. I know sometimes things are "not what they seem," but so many things just did not add up for me. The guy is screaming profanities, playing rap music and video games, lives in a fancy apartment, dresses and acts cocky, and violently chokes Julia. He seemed like such a low-vibration/low-consciousness sort of individual. I couldn't understand how a true goddess would be in close association with someone like him.

I immediately thought, no way, this can't be right. Something is wrong. This isn't what they think it is.

But then I figured, hmm, maybe this goddess wanted a really crude guy as her gatekeeper/servant, someone who is willing to use any means to protect whatever magic she has from falling into the wrong hands.

But, it still just didn't seem right.

When watching it for a second time I can somewhat understand why they still went ahead. It seems like the doubts they might have had were offset by the so-called "miracle" that he performed for Kady, which was basically just a small bit of emotional healing.

I guess it is a good example of how even intelligent and skeptical people can be duped. So many charlatans in the world use a small piece of something real and tangible to deceive people--a facade. It is also a good lesson for why discernment and listening to your gut is so important, as well as taking in ALL the evidence, and not allowing your own desperation to cloud your mind with confirmation bias.

I felt terrible for Julia and all of her friends when we found out what really happened, after the god Ember removed her memory block. They seemed like a good group of people, like she had finally found some solid ground to stand on. I was furious about what the trickster god did to her. I hope they get vengeance.

On another note, I think they shot and directed this part of her story really well though, with picking up with her after it had already gone down, only giving us bits and pieces of it, and then adding to the mystery even further by having Jane remark about her having a "patch" on her memory, covering something "recent" and "tragic." It really added to the suspense and got my mind running trying to guess what happened.

"Profanities Video games and rap music" makes a lowly person.

Ok.

Oh, come on now. You know exactly what he meant. The rap music and profanities are not symbolically linked to that particular benevolent deity that they were trying to get in contact with.
