So thats why Beth hates Jamie so much

He took her to an abortion clinic on the Res where they told him they will only do abortions if they can sterilize the girl, and he didn't tell her they was gonna sterilize her so she couldn't have kids anymore.

So yeah that was incredibly fucking awful what he did to her, he took it upon himself to take away her chance to ever have children. It now makes alot of sense why she hates him the way she does, cause she will never have a family of her own because of him.

reply

Jamie did her a favor. This woman should NOT be allowed to have children

reply

Yep, she's a bad piece of work.
She lays into that guy with no remorse, no conscience. Awful and evil.
If one gets invested in this series, how you can sympathize with this ugly and awful woman, I don't know.

btw, the Actress may be a wonderful and charming person in Real Life, so I don't want to drag her down, but her character in Yellowstone is pretty damn tough to swallow.

reply

Agreed and yes I'm sure the actress is charming in real life. But the character is awful. She makes Cersei in GOT look like Cinderella.

But I'm a rational person so I can tell the difference between the actress and the character, as are you.

reply

I recognized her in a Lifetime movie that I wasn't watching, but it was nice to see her doing something else.
She's quite pretty without being crazy young or glamorously exotic.

reply

Beth is just a miserable person, period. From childhood, all she did was cry and whine and feel sorry for herself and it's probably why her mother was getting so frustrated with her.

reply

Except you are assuming she was as toxic prior to being fucked over as she is now. Maybe she was a bit more normal prior to being sterilized. Let's face it having that done to you is going to give you some anger issues.

reply

Thomas, I just think Beth has always been a drama queen. It was seen in the flashbacks that she was always keeping the family waiting, always wanting to be the center of attention.

reply

Yes but being a drama queen and wanting to be the center of attention is not the same as being a psycho bitch from hell

reply

Correct.

She was the only female in a house full of males on a ranch full of men.
(and mom doesn't count cause, she's mom.)

reply

Sorry Thomas I knew the writers would ATTEMPT to do something like this. But wait guys "this is why Beth IS the way she is" in a feeble attempt to garner some sympathy for this despicable character and it didn't work. Beth is cold, cruel, and 100% unlikeable. There is basically nothing they can do to make me feel otherwise.

At least on GOT Cersei was given one or two redeeming qualities. She was awful too

reply

It is more a matter of perspective. While some of her actions are off the rails I still prefer her to most Cersei. Cersei was okay with killing kids, you don't see Beth cheering when someone tosses a kid out a window.

@I totally agree with you.

Already as a kid she was a pain in the butt then after her mother’s death , as a young teen, she was fooling around wearing clothes to provoke the men on the ranch .. then she connected with Rip and got pregnant.

To avoid her father’s anger , disapproval and disappointment , she went to Jaime and unloaded her shit onto him.

At the time Jaime was one year older, still a teen too , and I honestly don’t think he understood the psychological damage Beth would late experience due to the sterilisation.

Beth also hid from Rip that she was actually pregnant. It was his child too.

The truth is she didn’t want the child…it was a problem.

She didn’t want to face the consequences of her actions going to her father.

She wanted the easy way out ..get an abortion and go scott free. Daddy didn’t have to know she was shagging Roy.

Let’s face it .. she was no lost runaway teen with no money, with only abortion as an option.

She could have faced her father’s anger etc and had the baby .

I don’t feel sorry for her ..she was expecting a child but she wanted it gone and she paid a price.

As for their father…. Dutton let Beth mistreat Jaime for years … he never bothered to question/ ask her why.

Also when finally years after the cat was out of the bag , Dutton went ballistic with Jamie. As if he had no blame.

As a parent Dutton sinks especially towards Jamie.

Beth messed up her own life making the wrong choices.

reply

It's kind of weird that John never found out about it.

reply

Goes to show how smart Jaime was even at a younger age. I honestly don't think he did it out of malice, but just felt like Beth was backed into a corner and probably knew John would do something terrible. Don't forget, back then, John was a cruel man. He forced Kayce to get a brand as punishment because he refused to make Monica get an abortion.

reply

I don't remember that. Dang, I must had missed that flashback.

reply

It's not a flashback. Monica asks John why he made Kayce get the brand, and he told her just that. I believe this was in season 1, right after she see's Walker getting the brand.

reply

No, no no! She has no one to blame but herself. She should have let Rip take her. She is pure evil!

reply

When was this mentioned. I never heard it.

reply

There was opening to one episode. A young Jamie takes her to a Native American abortion clinic. They tell Jamie that she won’t be able to have kids afterwards. Jamie still went through with it

reply

This was so dumb. How old were Beth and Jamie supposed to be then? He appeared to be studying when she asked him to take her, so both were assumedly still minors. What the hell kind of clinic would perform a *hysterectomy,* a MAJOR surgical procedure, on *anyone* without their explicit knowledge and consent, and if a minor, without the *additional* consultation/consent of a parent/legal guardian?

Beth seemed pretty street smart for her age, so her getting her guts surgically cut open and removed without them first saying "so bye-bye uterus, then?" let alone her even asking anyone at the clinic any questions beforehand is simply not believable, especially for a character so smart, clever and calculating. And blaming her teenage brother for it is beyond ridiculous. I can think of so many things that could happen between siblings that would be much more believable than that. Why not a car wreck where he was driving? I mean jeez, it's a major plot point...

reply

I was just gonna say; I guess I’m just gonna have to go back and rewatch that scene because even though I know the clinic told Jamie that if they have it done there that they’re gonna have to do a hysterectomy but I can’t remember if Jamie actually told Beth that and I guess I don’t remember how Beth found out about her having a hysterectomy.

Jamie was driving, so I'm going to say his age would be 16-18. Beth is younger, so say 13-15 years old.

Regarding the sterilization, it was explained in the flashback sequence that a condition of getting an abortion on that NA Reservation was that sterilization was required. Being a reservation, the NAs can pretty much get away with a lot more than the state citizens in which the res lies. They have their own laws.

Now, I don't have a clue if that's even remotely true or even possible or if the writers felt the need to explain Beth's hatred of Jamie far more than just personality differences by hatching that subplot.
