Everyone else just ranged from moderately intelligent (i.e. Jason, Graham, Binyamin, and the early boots) to Above-average intelligent (i.e. Katherine, Ryan, Vanya, and Yeji).
Taking Algebra in 6th grade (like Katherine and Ryan did) or winning Spelling Bees does not a "Genius" make.
I thought everyone took algebra in sixth grade, I know I did.
I don't know what my IQ is but I qualified for advanced math and english and took special classes from third grade on. I actually took the SAT's in sixth grade, it was part of a program at the community college where if you had a certain IQ, AND were in advanced math and english you could take it. Depending on your score you could qualify for some college level courses. I guess I somehow did but I never took any.
I'm pretty sure that most kids were taking some form of algebra in sixth grade though. Granted this was 1000 years ago, (I graduated high school in 2000,) but i didn't think that was anything out of the ordinary.
In my opinion, this show really was highlighting who was the best memorizer, not who's the most intelligent. They did have to do some math and logic, but very little. Some of them might have been more familiar with certain subjects but really, it all came down to who can cram the best and come up with strategies to memorize.
You're right. It was a contest of who had the best memory and strategy to memorize. I remember being in an 8th grade math contest with no paper allowed. Years later I remember one question: if a circle with a radius of 7' is inscribed within a square, what is the area of the part outside the circle and within the square? (Pi was assigned the value of 3). Perfect math and logic question that would probably stump most of the contestants.
I agree,as far as Tanishq being an actual genius. He graduated high school at the age of 11. He started taking college Geology and Astronomy courses at the age of 7. Tanishq is a genius in all sense of the word :-)
Interesting, though, that this "genius" couldn't perform well against a bunch of pretty average kids in a rather easy competition that was basically a test of memory.
