Week 6 result

By week six, some of the weaker competitors have been eliminated. The tension ratchets up with the first round--Advanced Math--because this is a subject that is more about skill (i.e. methodology) than memorization. All but one contestant gets a perfect score. Jaden scores 9.

In the second round--Speed Memory--things get tougher. Sam so eloquently described it as "the little element of chaos'. The scores were the worst of any round so far. The high score was 8. Jaden had the lowest score, 5, and was eliminated.

Where did he fail? Some might say it was in his family's low key approach to study and education. But I maintain there was no failure. Afterwards, there were no recriminations. This is a kid who has his head on straight AND is intelligent. By integrating health (physical and mental) into their lifestyle, this family is mastering the art of living. And they seem happier than most.

I think the Math questions were too easy for kids with a supposed genius IQ. I would expect them to know some algebra and geometry at least. No surprise they almost all got perfect scores.

No matter who wins, I consider Adrien to be the overall smartest. He's going to Harvard next year and also has a scholarship for Julliard. Most important, he's got the highest social IQ and has a great attitude.

I'm not sure the Harvard thing is actually confirmed -- I think he just WANTS to go there.

I agree with you about Adrian's emotional IQ -- he seems pretty together. Jaden actually had a really good emotional IQ and chill attitude as well, probably attributable to his extremely chill unschooling lifestyle. He had a great attitude when it was time to go home.

Some of these kids need serious, serious work in that area.

Math round was an utter joke
I will watch rest of season but not the next

Math should have been far more challenging

reply

Agreed, especially when the Mensa woman claimed it would be so very difficult. Ridiculous! Any middle school kid would (or should) be able to do those problems. And a few were simple subtraction and division! Quotients and remainders? I think we learned that in the third grade. I mean, honestly -- what were they thinking calling that "advanced" math?!

reply

It was interesting that Jaden was fighting his parents (in a calm manner) for more structure, while the other kids would like more of the "chill time" he gets.
